After a quiet first quarter of the year, our small team has been ticking along nicely since April with 9 winners from our last 33 runners representing an impressive strike rate of more than 27%, which is more than 3 times the national average!

Camillas Wish Cartmel 1

Camillas Wish shows her rivals a clean pair of hooves

The pot has been kept well & truly boiling this week with our last two runners - Camillas Wish & Firestorm both being successful. The Presenting mare Camillas Wish made it 2 from 2 at Cartmel on Monday when, under Becky Smith, she defied a 12lb rise in the weights & a big step up in grade to comfortably win the featured three mile one & a half furlong Handicap Chase. The eight year old, running in the colours made famous by Grand National 3rd Rinus, has now won 5 of her 6 starts since the beginning of May. Although only small for a chaser she has the heart of a lion & stays longer than the mother-in-law!

Camillas Wish Cartmel 2

Camillas Wish & Becky Smith have plenty to smile about at Cartmel

The one eyed Firestorm spent his formative years in his native Germany where he was placed in both Group & Listed company as well as being beaten a head in the Swiss Derby. Since moving to England in 2015 his handicap rating has tumbled from 103 to less than half that figure but this evening (27th July) at Newbury he won off a mark of only 51 when coming from last to first under an excellent ride from Cath Walton in an extended 1 mile 5 furlong Amateur Riders' Handicap.

Bought cheaply at the Tattersalls Newmarket Sales in May, we are hopeful that the six year old can now start to climb back up the ratings with his confidence fully restored.
