NEW JUMPS SEASON OFF TO A FLYER
Our first runner of the 2019-20 National Hunt season won yesterday at Worcester at 20/1. LITTLE STEVIE, ridden by Sam Coltherd was an easy winner of the lucky last on the banks of the River Severn - a 2 mile Conditional Jockey's Handicap Hurdle for which he was sent off joint 7th favourite in the 12 runner field.
Little Stevie is clear jumping the last
This is how the Racing Post summed up the race. There was little in the way of solid recent form to go on in this moderate finale, but the winner won easily. LITTLE STEVIE's last (and only) win came in November 2016 and he'd been beaten a long way in all three starts for his current trainer. That said, he had gone close at Kelso in October off a 5lb higher mark and in fairness to him he travelled sweetly through the contest here and could be called the winner some way out. It's early days to be saying he's turned over a new leaf but this was an easy victory.'
Owned by Tranmere Rovers fan Keith Dodd (good luck in the play-offs tonight!), Stevie could run at Perth on Wednesday night over fences if coming out of yesterday's race well. He would escape a penalty in that 2 mile contest with his new handicap mark not kicking in until next Saturday.
There is a 25% share available to buy in the 7 year old son of Overbury. Give us a call if you would like further details!
