JUMP SEASON - WHAT A MESS!

The 2021/22 Jump Season ended at Sandown Park on 23rd April & the 2022/23 campaign began 6 days later at Cheltenham. Next Sunday Market Rasen are in action & then there is no jumping action for 13 days. There is therefore a bigger gap coming up than there was between the end of one season & the start of another! At Perth on Tuesday there are just 35 runners (7 races) & there is likely to be a similar number at the Scottish track on Wednesday afternoon!

Surely the time has come (like in the good old days!!) to have a proper break of a month or so between seasons? Back then there was no National Hunt action during June & July. At the present time there are just not enough horses to go round in the Summer months & the obvious answer is to give everyone connected with the sport a well earned break!
